A penny for your thoughts

A PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS

A penny for your thoughts, dear lady,
Though I am sure they’re worth much more,
You’re so lovely, yet seem so lonely,
I wonder why – whatever for?

A woman of your beauty,
Not meant to dine alone,
Does no one fill your wine glass?
Does no one wait at home?

Pensive lady, lost in thought,
What are you dreaming of?
Another time? Another place?
A past or future love?

I know inside you lies a tale,
There’s pain within your eyes,
I see an emptiness – so sad,
My dear, you tantalize.

Perhaps you’ve lost a loved one,
To death – or to another,
Both hurts – so deep – so tragic,
Do you doubt you will recover?

You will, dear lady – yes, you will,
If only I could tell you,
But in your reverie just now,
Most likely I would fail you.

In this world of your own,
In this place all by yourself,
Will you let nobody in?
Will you not come out for help?

Was that a smile on your face?
Ah, some inner thought intrigued you,
Faint, it seemed, and bittersweet,
Now gone – did it displease you?

Pretty lady, share my table,
Let me pour your wine,
No need to talk – we’ll let our thoughts
Communicate and intertwine.

I will walk you to your car,
I will see you safely on your way,
And I will thank you from my heart,
For brightening my day.

Blank Page

Blank Page

A blank page
the promise of poetic reflection
no rules
no limitations
no critiques
totally personal

Does a writer use the blank page
to express his thoughts
or does the blank page
use the writer
to uncover the hidden
and explore possibilities?

The writer reaps rewards
accolades for his talent
but without the
mystery and
inspiration
of the blank page

The writer is mute
unable to share
provoke
inform
persuade
the blank page
not the writer
is the true instrument of creativity

Butterflies and ribbons

Butterflies and ribbons

Butterflies and ribbons
To celebrate this day
Brought to you with happiness
With love that comes your way

Wishing you the sunshine
Wherever you may go
Peace and love to greet you
That gives a special glow

All you love surrounds you
On this your happy day
Knowing you are thought of
In a very loving way

When the day is over
And all is said and done
Knowing that your Birthday
Gave joy to everyone

For we are truly grateful
To have a chance to say
You mean so much to everyone
On this and every day.

Be a Clown

BE A CLOWN!

“ATTENTION! ATTENTION! IF YOU PLEASE!
BOYS AND GIRLS! LADIES AND GENTS!
WITH GREAT PLEASURE AND WITH PRIDE
WE PRESENT TO YOU OUR MAIN EVENT!”

With that, the clowns came tumbling out,
Each one funnier than the other,
There must have been a dozen of them,
Stumbling over one another.

Little boys’ eyes lit up,
And Little girls stared in awe,
Pointing, squealing, giggling, shrieking
At every silly clown they saw.

They were big and little, thin and fat,
Midget-short and giant-tall,
Little folks fell in love with them,
And big folks were enthralled.

They wore purple poke-a-dotted vests,
And chartreuse pantaloons,
Yellow socks with zigzag stripes,
And crazy hats with orange plumes.

They had red noses and red cheeks
On faces painted white,
Their hair was lavender and pink,
HO HO! What a funny sight!

They romped around the circus ring,
With Chihuahua pups on sturdy ropes,
They balanced on the handlebars,
Of bicycles with flashing spokes.

We cheered, we shouted, and we clapped
Until the tears rolled down our cheeks,
We giggled and we laughed so hard
Our tummies became weak.

No wonder, the ambition
Of every kid in town
Was to run away from home,
And become a circus clown.

And sometimes even grown-ups
Said they’d throw everything away,
If fate somehow would let them
Be a clown for just a day.

So when we smile and laugh a bit,
Let others join in,
Be a clown, my caring friend,
And share a giggle and a grin.

For Ever More

For Ever More

There are some lovely things I’ve seen
Some sights I’d love to share
The morning’s light through mountain trees
Is one that makes me stare.

A sunset over ocean waves
Is beautiful to see
But there is something I have found
More beautiful to me.

You see I’ve seen your lovely smile
I’ve looked into your eyes
And in them I see beauty rare
Unmatched, though nature tries.

In you, I’ve found my one true love
You make my spirit soar
And always will I be in love
With you for Ever More.

Essence of Love

Essence of love

At last I’ve come to realize
That even stars that dot the skies,
Are only pointless spots of light,
When you are absent from my sight.

So lovingly, I need you near,
For you’ve become my course to steer,
And as I come to be with you,
My destiny is clear and true.

To love and serve you is my life,
No matter what the pains or strife,
And if your smile is all I’d see,
Then that would be enough for me.

For with you, all the world is sweet
And with you, my whole life’s complete
As surely as the moon’s above,
You are the essence of my love.

Been thinking of you lately

Been thinking of you lately

Been thinking of you lately
I’ve wondered how you are
Thought about the last time
We danced among the stars

Night was so inviting
Filled with sweet romance
Feel your arms around me
Now I’m in a trance

Want you here beside me
So we can reminisce
Just one fleeting moment
I feel your gentle kiss

There among the moonbeams
Glistening with light
Hearts are beating softly
Such magic in the night

Close my eyes and wish now
Want you to be near
Standing right beside me
Makes everything so clear

Come a little closer
You’re right where you belong
Dancing on the soft white clouds
To our very special song.

Aim for your star

Aim for your star

Aim for your star, no matter how far,
You must reach high above
And touch your life with love,
You must never look back, but charge on!

Attack! See your goal your star of desire,
See it red hot, feel it burning,
You must be obsessed with it
To make it your true yearning,

Be ready, for when you truly believe it,
You will certainly achieve it
And by all the universal laws
You will always receive it!

A time to dream

A time to dream

I relax upon a pillow,
Of boughs and leaves of green,
I gaze into the sky above,
It is my time to dream.

I release my mind and free my heart,
I let the wind take me where it will,
I become a dancing leaf,
I am free and I am thrilled.

My lungs inhale the fresh, sweet air,
Washed clean by morning mists,
I savor every breath I breathe,
Like ambrosia on a golden dish.

I have this urge to feel and touch,
And encompass all I see,
Each awesome sight within my mind,
The wonders of my dream.

I am taken far beyond
The mundane things of life,
I float upon white fleecy clouds,
I am fairy-like and light.

I am a child of innocence,
Next I am old with wisdom,
Then I am a bit of each,
Which contributes to my visions.

I must embrace it all
Else my dream not be complete,
I have this overwhelming love,
For everything I meet.

I dream with passion and compassion,
I love the things of which I dream,
For a moment I escape
To places only I have seen.

The peace and love within my dreams,
I cannot give to you,
But I can wish you times to dream,
So you may find your joys, too.

A smiling wise old man

A SMILING, WISE, OLD MAN

When he was young and handsome,
He had ladies by the score,
But now he’s grown very old,
And has no ladies anymore.

But lest you fret at his distress,
Let me ease your needless pain,
And assure you he remembers
Each lovely lady’s name.

His memories are better,
Than the romance novels of today,
And the scenes within his mind, more sweet,
Than any others now portrayed.

Some old folks are discontent,
And too many rue old age,
But this old soul sits back and smiles,
As he turns each memory page.

No reason to offer pity,
Nor, with comfort, pat his knee,
There’s more going on in his old head,
Then your life may ever see.

That’s why he smiles so much, my friend,
Which you falsely call dementia,
But I call him a happy man
Better off than you, I’ll betcha’.

Now the moral of my story is this,
Make memories while you can,
So when you grow old, you will become,
A smiling, wise, old man!
(or woman!)
